Ticino

The Ticino is the Italian-speaking south of Switzerland, where palm-lined lakeshores, pastel waterfront towns and a relaxed Mediterranean pace meet the famous Swiss efficiency. Scenic train rides connect it all, and the station always sits right in the town center.

There are so many wonderful places to visit in the Ticino that we have an entire section devoted to it. This page will help you navigate to the different towns and attractions. Two main cities, Locarno and Lugano, serve as comfortable home bases for your explorations, each on its own lake and surrounded by smaller villages well worth a day trip.

Beyond the towns, the Ticino has a few special attractions. At Swissminiatur you can see the whole country in miniature and sample local chocolate, an easy and enjoyable stop near Lugano.
